Frequently Asked Questions
What
is a ‘pledge’?
An
‘annual pledge of record’ is your commitment of financial support for FUS in
the upcoming year. Pledges can be made by an individual, a couple or a family.
Most people set up a monthly payment using our improved online system.
Why
do we pledge?
Just
like other families, FUS needs to know how much income to expect so we can
prepare our budget for the next year. These springtime commitments allow us to
plan our spending for the fiscal year of July 1 through June 30. We only spend
what we expect to have.
How
do I make my pledge?
You
can fill out a paper pledge form, use the form at www.fusmadison.org/pledge or
simply send an email with your commitment to a minister or staff person. We
will add that commitment to the other projected budget income.
How
do I pay my pledge?
You
can pay by check, by credit card, or set up an automatic monthly withdrawal. We
have simplified the EFT online giving section, and you can always call us if
you need help. Pledge payments are due by the end of the following fiscal year
(June 30, 2014).
What
is a Waiver?
A
waiver is a formal request from a member to be excused from making a recordable
financial pledge for the upcoming fiscal year due to financial or personal
reasons. If you are not able to make a pledge this year, you may formally
request a waiver from your financial commitment to FUS for 2013-14 on the
pledge form.
How
can I pledge if I’m not sure what my circumstances will be in the coming year?
Your
pledge is your best estimate of what you expect to give during the coming year.
Most members decide by considering a monthly amount. If your circumstances
change, you can always increase or reduce your pledge by going online or
notifying the FUS office.
Does
my spouse need to be a member to be included in a family pledge?
We
welcome pledges from everyone who participates, so that we can share financial
costs across our community. Every year, over 340 individuals and organizations
choose to be ‘affiliates’ and pledge without becoming a formal member, and
without signing the book.
Do
you share contribution amounts within the parish?
We
recognize a pledge is an investment in the power of us all, and that when we
give to FUS, we are really giving to ourselves and one another. We do not
share donor history or financial information with anybody. This year – to
say thank you -- we are giving special orange nametag ribbons that state “I
Help FUS Happen” to those who pledge in any of the following levels:
- Give 4% or more of their income
- Give a 20% increase over last year
- Give $1750 or more as a single contributor
- Give $3500 or more as a couple or a family
