Pithy Construction News from "Beacon Street West” (FUS) for August 22 - 29, 2007

Replacing the lights in the Auditorium.
A Wing
It all starts today with the arrival of a lift with a 40-foot arm to reach into
the prow. This will be a presence for about the next three weeks. The
electricians are first up, followed by the painters, first they wash, then patch,
then paint. While they are waiting for their turn on the lift, the painters
are starting in the Lobby.
Meanwhile, the plasterers take over the Loggia. They have waited until sheet
rock is hung in the offices to make sure the walls are stable before they plaster
the Loggia.
B Wing
All the “rock” is hung, and the lower level is taped. Painting started
today in lower B.
D Wing
The excavation has begun, starting with the storm sewer and rain gardens at the
back of the lot. This has to proceed from back to front, because once we start
pouring the walls, there is no way to get equipment back there.
Stone Chippers
The rock pile has moved, but the mortar chipping goes on. Join us Saturdays at
9 a.m.
Free Stuff, and other notes.
We have numerous 2 tube 4 foot fluorescent surface mount light fixtures from
the Nursery School. Free for the taking. They’re piled in front of the
Nickles Electric trailer. Our recycling rate for the month
of July was 97.83%. 293 tons of material was diverted fro the landfill. This
rate will no doubt go down when there is less heavy stuff like concrete and asphalt. Still
it’s pretty exciting.
