Greetings from the Meeting House!
It's a pleasant if a bit sultry here. I can hear the various noises as the Findorf crew builds the mold for the enormous retaining wall. The sight never fails to stop boys in their tracks. And now for the pithy news, right after this important announcement. - HC

Important Parish Meeting • Sunday, September 23 • 12:45 – 2 p.m.

We have made a number of discoveries as we work. All of these are interesting and have challenging implications. Please come so you can keep up to date on what is happening and what needs to be done. We’ll have amazing food from our own "Food Haulers" beginning immediately after the second service. Childcare will be available.

Hard Hat News

Life in the trailers is calmer this week, after the frenetic drive to complete the B Wing and settle the Nursery School. The plastering is complete, so the Meeting House stays a lot cleaner. We move out of the trailers October 1. Watch for news of a claiming sale for our no longer needed office furniture.

A Wing

After the hordes of the last several weeks, we are down to a finish carpenter and assistant. They have completed the trim in Michael’s office and are moving east. It all should be done by Friday. The historic colors defy description. Come and see. Last week marked the cleaning of all the Prow windows. If you (like me) never quite got the idea of bringing the outside in, come and see.

Forms are rising for the retaining wall. These diagrams show what’s on the other side and where things will be.  When Vince (the architect) said “Board Formed Concrete”, we all nodded knowingly, but last night the building Committee met to grapple with terms like “sand-blasted cedar, soft maple pallet wood, radial sawn, band sawn, chamfer, squeeze-out, honey-combing and voids. Vince’s stated goal is to have a lot of texture, wood grain, saw marks, ridges where concrete extrudes between boards, even some warping. We are pouring some more test panels to make sure we can have an interior surface that is welcoming. The first tests of staining turned out to be more like paint, but the painter thought we would want it extra thick to see the color. Onward!

Really Big Cleanup Day September 29/30

A Fabulous Fall Post-Preservation Cleaning Party is tentatively being planned for Saturday September 29, and Sunday September 30. The repairs stirred up quite a bit of dust; all of us will be invited to lend a little elbow grease to the effort to get it out! Watch the newsletter for details as they are sketched out David Weber, Owners Representative and Alice Delaquess, Coordinator of Member Programs
