The Kitchen floor is in
Greetings from Cement City!
Yesterday the floors were pink and yellow with insulation and vapor barrier, very spring-like. But today they are black, covered with black plastic mats to protect the sand from moisture and freezing.
The Lower Crossing floor is poured as far as the kitchen, and it’s starting to look like a building.
The form is up for one side of the east Auditorium wall, and the space of the room is starting to make itself felt. This morning I stood where the pulpit will be, and the room feels more intimate than I had imagined from the drawings. The balcony will sit on top of the row of concrete pillars at the back of the auditorium.
What’s Next
Tomorrow the east wall and remaining south wall will be poured, and more floors next week. It’s getting more real by the day, and the Forums on Saturday and Sunday will mark the start of our thinking about our congregational life in the new building.
Fora on Saturday and Sunday
Finally a reminder that there will be a special fora on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, to discuss the future uses of our facilities, new and historic. We’ll begin with a visual presentation of what the finished space will look like. What are we going to do with all this space we’re building? How is it going to affect our programs? Opportunities await us!

Anoter view of the kitchen floor. The blue pipe is a ventilation shaft.
