Hard Hat Update

January 23, 2008

The RE and school storage rooms.

Greetings!

The focus of activity has shifted to the classroom area. The rumble of backhoes has been replaced by the scream of circular saws, and I can see most of the action from my trailer window!

Sidewalk Superintending

Here are the current sights, starting at the B-wing entrance and moving east. The best view is from the trailer deck.

- The plywood decking is on the storeroom roofs.
- The two posts sticking up mark where the upper crossing widens out from the opening in the wall.
- The West Courtyard is ringed with Glu-lam posts and beams. The white box on legs at the far side of the Courtyard shelters the Plans. It reminds me of the cases in museums that protect ancient Sacred Texts.
- The walls of the classroom area are all framed, and the roof joists and decking are going up today.  It was easier to see the outline of the walls yesterday.

Lower Level

The curved rim of the balcony and the edge of the upper crossing are installed, and there is a real feel of the gathering area outside of the Auditorium..

For the Visionaries

The concrete walls are all poured, so, with the exception of the south Auditorium wall, any walls that you can’t see will be glass. The gaps in the big Auditorium wall will be maple slats with indirect lighting behind them.

Glu-lam Beams

The beams are manufactured to a 1/16” tolerance, and they are dropping in with very little adjustment. They are shipped with a sealant applied, but we are keeping them wrapped for extra protection. The natural pine is beautiful. Any beam that you see that has a tapered end will be an exposed eave.
