Hard Hat Update

March 6, 2008

Peeking into the Auditorium, we see the balcony and the roof decking beginning to be installed

Greetings!

The predicted average temperature for March is 51 degrees, but when the sun is out, it is not too bad. The snow piles are getting smaller, if only by attrition, and the ice sheets are losing their grip on the concrete.

Sidewalk Superintending

The view from the west door is by piles of white plastic. That is the Styrofoam insulation for the roof. It will be covered with a water barrier. The Auditorium is all framed and the decking (ceiling) will be done by next week. The first of the south eaves is on, so you can see the profile. The west end of the upper crossing is framed and decked. Matt from Findorff sent us a photo from up in Children’s hospital. You can see that will truly be a campus.

Out of Sight

The pine ceilings really create a space, and the large arcs that are the main geometry become more and more apparent. The points of the steel struts form a beautiful curve.

Preservation

The lights in the historic Auditorium are all working, and tomorrow the lift goes home. There are still two unfinished lights by the east entrance; the are waiting for the arrival of the UL inspector, so that he can view the actual process. Michael Schuler says that when they are done, it will mark the first time he will have seen all the lights in operation.

Next Week

Look for wall framing, columns and beams on the second floor.
