Hard Hat Update - Pithy FUS construction News
The doors and windows are going in on the west courtyard.

April 9, 2008

Greetings!
From the white roofs. It’s hard to believe that a week ago we had our own miniature Grand Canyon in the parking lot.  There should be no further parking disruptions until we pave in late June. We were thrilled that the well drillers worked overtime to get our parking back by Friday, only to have access disrupted by problems in delivering a 120,000 pound MRI unit to UW.

The Roof
The insulation and membrane are complete. Yesterday I heard the tap tap of tinners’ hammers and sure enough, copper is starting to appear at the eaves

We can see clearly now…
The windows around the West Court yard will be done by the end of the week, then it’s on to the courtyard side of the Upper Crossing. Today they were measuring for the west windows of the Auditorium. Vince tells me that the FLW rule is that movable sashes are red and fixed sashes are black.

Auditorium
It’s time for more concrete. The tiers in the southwest (Choir) corner are poured, and the tier closest to the west wall gets poured today.

Cash Flow
Of course, it is flowing out.  Many of our dear Capital Campaign Pledgers send annual checks in December, while Findorff sends us three invoices every month (labor monthly and materials biweekly.)  Anyone able to send a Capital Campaign contribution early will help immensely with our cash flow management.  Many thanks to those of you who have already accelerated your payment schedule!

Tours
If the weather is favorable, meet me in the Hearthroom after the 9:00 service and we’ll go inside the fence to see what we can see.

Volunteers
The first call is for Master Gardeners to meet Wednesday, April 16, at 7:00 PM in the West Living Room. There is a lot of planting, and we want to strategize about forming teams. There will be a meeting in the Auditorium on Monday, April 28, at 7:00 PM for all those interested in the landscaping to flesh out more of the “when”s and “hows”.
The next tasks in order of urgency are: Razing the Annex shed, Building the dumpster enclosure, Painting classrooms, terminating data lines and manufacturing Library shelves.

It’s a really big ditch

 It’s time for more concrete!

If you look closely - is that copper? Hard to tell.

Looking south from the head of where the north stairs will soon rise. Note the fresh concrete floor in the upper crossing to the left.
