May 7, 2008Greetings from the superlatively clement slopes of University Bay Drive. Everyone is in short sleeves and exuberant, and the schedule still looks good. Sidewalk SuperintendingIf you look between the Main Entrance and the Hearthroom door, you can see a sample of the concrete stain. It’s on the top three rows. I’ve set sample of yellow pine and limestone on it for comparison. Subtle changes are that the steel posts are now painted a neutral tan, as are the bolts (this one may take binoculars). Looking through the Upper Crossing, the windows on the far side are in. The copper roof edge is complete, and there is the start of the seemed copper roof above. The steel posts for the connecting link are in and are painted red. Windows on the south side of the Upper Crossing may appear as soon as Friday. InsideThe balcony tiers are done. They get a seven day curing period to prevent cracking. The final pour of the Auditorium floor will be Thursday. Volunteers will paint the large classroom on Friday; the cabinetry and woodwork comes on May 15.We are beginning the staining of the exposed concrete with the columns. Framing rough ins are done as far as the kitchen, with drywall close behind. Somewhere ElseManufacturing proceeds: light fixtures, cabinets, computer controls for HVAC.ToursMeet me in the Hearthroom between services for a “beyond the fence” look.Volunteer WorkRae Gilbertson (rg@mailbag.com) is collecting names and interests for volunteers. Sunday June 8 we will need to start dismantling the trailer deck. Planting and garden maintenance will continue. I’m busy trying to develop a bigger picture, so watch this space.David Weber
