FUS OPERATIONS CHARTER
Draft 11-3-04
This draft charter indicates the mission, scope and
current priorities of
the Operations Council during
this transition year.
The Operations Council is responsible for buildings
and grounds. The complexity
of Council tasks reflects
its wide scope related to the Board, including liaison
with an at-large trustee, and especially the Church
Administrator.
The Council chair coordinates with the Church Administrator
and chairs of
Connections, Finance, Religious Education,
Social Justice, Worship Councils
and related task groups
and committees. The Operation Council is responsible
for developing plans, activities and especially volunteer participation for
carrying out policies made by the First Unitarian Board. As with all Councils,
communication with FUS members is important; the availability of information
about members’ talents and interests is critical for identifying potential
volunteers and for increasing lay leadership.
A high priority this year and beyond is coordination and communication with task groups related to facilities preservation, maintenance, and expansion. Current Council activities include: maintenance, ventilation and climate control, lighting in Auditorium and Loggia, lobby rest rooms, signage, parking, storage, kitchens, offices, utilities and equipment, walking path, grounds and landscaping.
The Operations Council chair (and co-chair) will develop plans and activities
that reflect priorities as they coordinate with:
• council chairs and staff for inclusion of additional member information categories
in the FUS electronic database for the purpose of increasing volunteer participation
and lay leadership.
• council chairs, ministers and staff to evaluate and increase the functionality
of storage, kitchens and food service, rest rooms, signage and parking.
• Grounds group and staff concerning ongoing projects and increasing the number
of volunteers in the Grounds group as well as the development of a liaison
with the UW Horticulture department.
• church administrator regarding offices, utilities, equipment and all other
Council tasks.
• FUS staff regarding the walking path.
• chairs related to task groups regarding facilities expansion, preservation
, and maintenance.
• coordinate with a co-chair to provide continuity as successor.
A proposed standing committee on personnel would assist FUS staff with planning,
improvement, and appreciation as they relate to FUS members and other staff
and ministers.
