Charter of the Religious Education Council
Name: Religious Education Council

Mission and Purpose:
It is the mission of the Religious Education Council
to provide a forum for discussion and promotion of
lifespan religious education at First Unitarian Society,
and to facilitate the availability of educational and
informational materials to all members and affiliates
of the Society.

Area of Responsibility:
The council shall provide leadership
to its member committees and facilitate information sharing
to promote coordination of their activities. The council may
participate in discussions, planning and activities relating to
religious education for all ages from nursery to adult. It shall encourage cooperation with non- member groups that also perform educational roles such as the Denominational Affairs Committee and members of the Social Justice Council.

Specific Activities and Tasks:
The council shall convene at least quarterly. It will hear reports from representatives of its member committees, affiliated groups and from relevant staff and clergy. The Council Chair shall keep members informed about activities of the Board of Trustees. Projects and requests that come from its member committees or affiliates and which require consideration and approval from the Board of Trustees shall be presented to the Council for discussion and approval before presentation to the Board. The Council shall consider the budgets and annual reports of its member committees.

Reporting Relationships: The council shall report through its Board Liaison to the Board of Trustees.

Reports and Record Keeping:

Minutes of the Council's meetings shall be prepared and distributed to its member committees, the Board of Trustees and relevant staff and clergy. An annual report of council activities shall be submitted for reporting to the parish at the Spring Parish Meeting.

Sources of Financial-Support: The Council should not require support in addition to that provided to its member committees.
