Learning About Our UU Sources “What’s God Got to Do With?” with the Rev. Karen Gustafson (Tuesday, February 14) Karen and a guest will engage in a conversation that will deepen our understanding of the nature and power of love as it is understood in the religious traditions that inform western culture.
Justice GA: Learn Locally, Act Nationally” with Liz Wessel & Erich Pitcher (Begins Tuesday February 28) In preparation for national action on Immigration, and the 2012 Justice GA, Liz Wessel and Erich Pitcher are teaming up to offer an action-oriented Adult Education class that will explore developing a local relationship with Centro Hispano.
The Magic of Music" A Movie Series with Michael and Trina Schuler (begins February 16; This class is full; contact Deb Mies at 233-9774, X114 to get on the waiting list.) During the February doldrums, join Trina and Michael on Thursday evenings for a viewing and discussion of fine films that focus on music. We’ll be watching first-rate movies, each of which focuses on a different composer, performer or interpreter of music.
"Can Science Be Sacred?" with Steve Paulson (February 21) A growing number of secular scientists and philosophers are embracing the language of religion to describe the wonders of nature, and to formulate their own spirituality without God.
“Parent Reading Group: Simplicity Parenting” with Kelly J. Crocker (February 23 or 26) We’ll look for ways to help us, as parents, reclaim for our children the space and freedom that all kids need for their attention to deepen and their individuality to flourish.
"Mothering and Identity" with Karen Gustafson (begins February 27) Join us for a course that is for anyone who has been and/ or is a mother who struggles to reconcile the reality of mothering with the myth of the “good mother.”
"Exploring Sufism" with Kelly Crocker and Jerry Mosser (begins February 28) Sufism is rooted in Islam. Sufis seek to understand and experience that aspect of Islam that involves cultivating the inner life in search of divine love and knowledge.

“Spirit Made Manifest: Telling Your Spiritual Life Story in Beads” with Janet Swanson and Marilee Wertlake (CLASS CANCELLED) Beads and spirituality are inextricably linked. The very word “bead” in English is from the Anglo-Saxon words “bidden” (to pray) and “bede (“prayer”).
“Ten Steps to Positive Discipline” with Linda Nyland (March 11) Conscious Discipline® is an emotional intelligence program consisting of strategies for responding, rather than reacting, to life events.

“Finding Peace Through Stillness: Recovery & Meditation with Eckhart Tolle and Richard Rohr” with Linda Allen (begins April 9) Join Linda in finding peace through stillness utilizing the teaching of Eckhart Tolle.
“Planning a Personal Memorial Service” with Michael Schuler,Dan Broner, and Nancy Johnson (begins April 17) Have you thought about a message of comfort and gratitude you may wish to convey to your family and friends during your memorial service?
REDUCED FEE! A Multispecies Awareness Encounter: “Living Our Sixth Source” Friday evening, April 26 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with dinner, and Saturday April 27 from 9:00 to 3:00 p.m.; lunch included FUS is fortunate to be chosen as one of three UU congregations that are pilot sites for this UU Animal Ministry workshop. Through film, stories, group exercises and discussion, the workshop is designed to deepen our understanding of multispecies relationships.
“The Mendelssohn Octet: Come with us to Fairyland” The Ancora String Quartet (Please note date change to April 30) Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat Major for Strings, Op. 20, occupies a unique place in the chamber music literature. This sparkling masterpiece, written by the 16-year-old as a birthday gift for his friend and teacher Edward Rietz, was the work that catapulted the teenager into the ranks of the first-tier composers of his time.

“Final Insights: Discovering the Messages of the Dying” with Denise Gloede, VP of Access, AgraceHospiceCare (May 1) Although we’d rather it not be the case, most of us will spend time with a dying person. That time can be less confusing and distressing if you understand how the dying communicate their needs and reveal their feelings.
