CHILDCARE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Tongue-tied when your children ask about God and heaven? More confident about what UUs do not believe than about what we do believe? Everyone agrees that religion is taught—or caught—mainly in the home, yet we think of religious education as something occurring for an hour on Sunday mornings.

Minnesota-based author and family therapist Bill Doherty will lead a workshop on the challenges and possibilities for Unitarian Universalist families trying to pass on our liberal religious heritage to our children. He will be joined by two parents, Louise Livesay and Pamela Johnson, who have been leaders in building an intentional community to raise children religiously in the Unitarian Universalist tradition, and by Pamela’s daughter Tess, who will share her unique perspective.

You will learn about ways to talk with children about UU values and two home-based rituals that put our religious tradition into everyday practice.

Bill Doherty is a professor and past Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. He is a practicing marriage and family therapist and gives talks to parents all over the U.S. He has authored the acclaimed book "Take Back Your Kids," and has organized grass-roots parent initiatives to reclaim parental leadership in an out-of-control world. His presentations are noted for humor, audience engagement, and practical wisdom.
