First Unitarian Society of Madison

Ancora String Quartet in Residence

The First Unitarian Society Music Department is pleased to announce a residency with the Ancora String Quartet. This chamber ensemble of four of the Madison area's finest young musicians is making a name for itself with dynamic performances of repertoire that ranges from Mozart to the Indigo Girls. The musicians of the quartet, Leanne Kelso League (violin), Robin Ryan (violin), Marika Fischer Hoyt (viola), and Benjamin Whitcomb (cello), earned degrees from leading music schools including the New England Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University and the University of Texas-Austin. They are in demand as free-lance musicians and appear in the Madison Symphony, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. The ASQ performs in Madison and throughout south-central Wisconsin and maintains cordial relations with Ancora Coffee roasters. More information about the quartet can be found on their website, www.ancoraquartet.com.

The vibrant sound of the Ancora String Quartet is a good match for the fine acoustics of our Frank Lloyd Wright designed Landmark Auditorium.  Their final concert of the season will be on Saturday evening, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. featuring quartets by Griffes, Smetana and Hindemith, chosen by Wisconsin Public Radio host Norman Gilliland.  Mr. Gilliland will give a 7:00 pm pre-concert talk, discussing the three pieces he chose for this program and why he chose them.  He's an entertaining speaker, and you won't want to miss his talk, or the recital itself!

Admission at the door will be $12, $10 for seniors and students, and $6 for children under 12.  A champagne reception follows the concert.
